Telehealth and telesupervision for ABA in Wyoming
Last researched October 21, 2026
Can a BCBA in Wyoming deliver or supervise ABA by video, and what licensure applies? Answers below say exactly how sure we are.
BCBA licensure
- State license required for BCBAs
Yes.
- License title
Behavior Analyst and Assistant Behavior Analyst
- Board
Wyoming State Board of Psychology
- Board website
- https://psychology.wyo.gov/
- Statute or rule
W.S. 33-27-124 and 33-27-125 (2022 HB0110, Enrolled Act 18), subject to the statutory exemptions in W.S. 33-27-125; board rules filed Oct 2, 2025 (including Chapter 9 fees and Chapter 14 section 6 supervision requirements)
- Fees and timeline
As of 2026-10-21, licensure is required to practice as a behavior analyst or assistant behavior analyst in Wyoming, subject to statutory exemptions. License requires current BCBA (behavior analyst) or BCaBA (assistant) certification in good standing, verified with the BACB or its successor organization. Assistants practice only under the supervision of a licensed behavior analyst or licensed psychologist, in compliance with the certifying entity's requirements and board rule. Under Chapter 14 section 6, a BCBA supervisor must be licensed, BACB-certified and without current disciplinary sanctions; a psychologist supervisor must hold the specified ABPP certification and have been tested in applied behavior analysis. Chapter 14 also sets a 2% monthly supervision minimum and a monthly meeting requirement. Current Chapter 9 fees: $600 application and $400 annual renewal. Applicants are fingerprinted for criminal history under W.S. 7-19-201(a)(xxxii).
Telehealth and telesupervision
- ABA delivered by telehealth
Sometimes. See the detail below.
- Detail
CCHP's May 2026 review of Wyoming Medicaid's April 1, 2026 manuals lists BCBAs among eligible telehealth practitioners. It describes medically necessary, otherwise-covered services delivered through real-time interactive audio and video, with HIPAA compliance, documentation of modality and locations, and consent when the member is at home. General billing uses the service code with GT or 95 and the same rates as in-person care. These provisions support conditional BCBA telehealth availability, but do not establish eligibility for every ABA code or technician-delivered telehealth. Wyoming Medicaid's behavioral health rule, effective August 6, 2025, separately names licensed BCaBAs and RBTs under BCBA/BCBA-D supervision for adaptive behavior treatment; general telehealth permission does not establish an unregistered-BT billing pathway. The October 1, 2026 manual was located but could not be read.
- Telehealth parity law
W.S. 26-20-701(b): policies and contracts within the statute that provide mental health or substance use coverage may not deny an otherwise-covered service because it is delivered through remote audio or audiovisual systems, impose higher patient cost-sharing, or reimburse the provider less than for in-person delivery. This is a mental health/substance use parity provision, not an ABA-specific billing-code authorization.
- In-person requirements
We could not verify this yet - check with the state Medicaid agency or licensing board.
- Supervision by telehealth
For BACB credential maintenance, the RBT Handbook updated June 29, 2026 permits supervision observations through webcams or videoconferencing instead of physical presence, subject to applicable law. It requires supervision for at least 5% of monthly behavior-analytic service hours, at least two real-time face-to-face contacts monthly, at least one observation of service delivery, and at least one individual supervision session. Telephone or email alone does not meet the contact requirement. This establishes the BACB standard, not Wyoming board approval or payer reimbursement for a particular remote-supervision arrangement; those ABA-specific requirements remain unverified.

National baseline: BACB telesupervision
Handbook: in-person on-site observation is preferred, but observation 'may be conducted via web cameras, video-conferencing, or similar means'; internet-based supervision must comply with all applicable laws; video monitoring alone without real-time interaction/feedback may not count. Phone or email contacts do not count as the face-to-face contacts. Payer/state rules can be stricter (CMS toolkit says telehealth should be a limited adjunct and 'generally avoided' for routine technician supervision; that is CMS guidance to states, not a BACB rule).
This is the BACB's certification rule for RBT supervision. State, Medicaid or payer rules can be stricter. High confidence for the BACB text as of 2026-10-21.
